Documentaries
After a nomadic documentation of social, environmental and conflict issues around the world, 2012 will make it a decade I’ve been living and photographing, not only in Trinidad, but the wider Caribbean.
My goal was to document the strange, unseen or sometimes, just the benign, in Caribbean life that people take for granted everyday. Instead of big global news issues, I’ve gotten really introverted and just tried to look at what’s a hundred yards ahead of me. There is so much to document in our islands - amazing imagery happens on every corner, every day.
We’re at an interesting junction, we’re between one of the World’s most powerful nations to the north, and to the south and we're immersed in one of the fastest growing global economies. Globalisation has impacted us greatly and yet, sometimes it feels like nothing has changed at all.
New generations are growing up in a digital, connected and freer Caribbean. Local entrepreneurs, artists, makers, singers and designers are feeling the restrictive boundaries of social norms and family expectations while creative education options appear.
This is their time. This is a great time for all creatives, innovators and photographers in the Caribbean...and I’m looking forward to documenting the next decade to come.
